Interior Decorating & Styling


The course will provide an introductory insight into decorating and styling interior spaces. Students will be presented with the different areas concerning decorating residential interior and will be encourage to test different ideas and style preferences.

Students will be presented with methods and skills used in decorating residential spaces which will be backed up by up to date and relevant examples and trends. They will be set a mini project(s) by which they will be encourage interpreting a brief and developing the concept.

They will be able to identify the different aspects of interior decorating  and practice it during the session. Students will decide which mini brief they would like to work on, based on their personal preferences and personal requirements/future plans.

By the end of this course student will understand the key elements involved in decorating and styling residential interior. They will have the confidence to successfully plan a scheme to decorate residential interior and how to identify and take the necessary steps to create the decorative style that answer specific brief.

All classes at Blake College of Art & Design are kept to a small number, allowing space for genuine 1:1 tuition with the teacher and a friendly, relaxed environment.

The following topics will be covered during this course:

  • Basic design principles: (symmetry and balance, scale and proportion)
  • Different interior styles
  • Wall and floor finishes
  • Colour, textures and patterns
  • Furniture layout
  • Lighting
  • Soft furnishing
  • Accessories
  • Concept board/sample board preparation

Anyone with a passion for interiors should take this course. The course will give students the knowledge and tips of how to implement their ideas into a real project. It will also appeal to anyone with an interest in interior decorating, who may like to try their hand at renovation at some point in the future.

Each course runs from 10am until 4pm from Monday to Friday and costs £450.
Students wishing to take three or more courses can do so for £395 per course.
